Mazda is preparing to launch the next generation MX-5, a model that will feature a radical rethink. “The next MX-5 needs to be a big step,” said Mazda’s Chief designer Lauren Van den Acker. “The last one was too conservative and we can’t do another car like that. We need to make it more dramatic and give it some balls.”
The next MX-5 will make its debut in 2012, and Mazda wants it to be a no-nonsense small rear-drive roadster. Expect the new one to be lighter and more fuel-efficient than the current model.
For the 2008 Paris Auto Show Mazda is preparing a small facelift of current MX-5. The MazdaSpeed version will be dropped.
First we reported that BMW has confirmed the production of the M3 CSL for 2010. But it seems that the company has canceled plans to produce a lighter and sharper CSL version of the E92 M3.
The M3 CSL was supposed to be powered by an updated version of the standard 4.0L V8 with power between 450bhp and 470bhp. It was also suppose to loose 100kg in weight thanks to wider use of flyweight materials. Ludwig Willisch, the new M Division boss, said: "Based on current numbers, there is most likely insufficient demand for the M3 CSL."
The October issue of the Car Magazine will feature a very interesting article of the 2010 Audi RS5, a model that will be a serious competitor to the BMW M3.
The RS5 will be powered by the same twin-turbo V10 engine from the RS6 with output around 580 hp.
The engine will be mated to Audi’s latest 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission (a.k.a. DSG). The new RS cars will also benefit from Audi Drive Select (ADS) - controlling suspension, steering weight and ratio, throttle mapping, and shift points on S-tronic models.
Maybe the term of ”land yacht” is strange to you. Well, for the folks who don’t know it, a land yacht is actually a luxurious motorhome, and in our example this is built by the German manufacturer Vario Mobil. The “house on wheels”, if we could name it like that, comes with a luxurious interior and everything we could find in a home, but also with a garage. You would say, ya right….but the garage can include a Smart ForTwo, a Mini Cooper and, for the larger models, even a Porsche 911 or a Ferrari.
Based on Mercedes-Benz, Man and Volvo busses, the vehicle’s dimension can vary from 7.5 to 12 meters but have also a big price: between $450,000 to over $900,000, depending on the customer’s choices.
Cadillac needs to trim its weight and its profile. It’s line-up is filled with cars that could be considered "gas hogs". But there is good news for Cadillac and GM, the high-mileage Volt technology likely will filter over to Cadillac. This is good for Cadillac’s gas milage, and it also gives GM a premium place to park the expensive hybrid technology.
This is also good for Cadillac’s line because many of its new projects seem to be put "on hold". Right now, the one car that was supposed to replace both the DTS and STS is no longer on deck, and so both cars will solider on. While other big-engined cars such as the XLR and Escalade have somewhat uncertain futures. The only car that still seems to be on track is a new small one that will slot under the CTS.
Every country has its ways of trying to reduce speed. For example, the city of Philadelphia uses 3D images to deter speeders. But China went to the extremes: a 100 foot long, 2 foot high, winding speed block smack dab in the middle of the Jing Zhuang highway.
Can you imagine how your car might look like after passing it? Or the traffic jams? Hmm! Rather not!
Is not the first time you hear about a successor for the Nissan 240SX. Only last month we brought you a possible rendering of the future sports car. And today a new one, this time from the Japanese magazine Best Car.
The new 240SX will debut in 2010 or 2011 and is supposed to be based on a modified version of the 350Z’s FM rear-wheel-drive platform.
Under the hood there will be well utilized 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Rumors say Nissan will also make a version with an engine about 1.5 to 1.6-liters of displacement combined with a small turbocharger, possibly producing up to 225 bhp.
Lexus unveiled today at the Moscow Motor Show the LS 460 All-Wheel Drive, a new version that will go on sale starting November.
The all-wheel drive system is a three differential configuration featuring a highly compact TORSEN® Limited Slip Differential (LSD) – shared with the LS 600h - which distributes drive torque between the front and rear axles with a 40:60 rear axle bias in torque distribution.
Under the hood there is a 4.6-liter V8 engine that delivers 381 hp (same as in the standard model).
Rex Accelero, a tuner that is not yet as well known as Brabus or Carlsson, unveiled its latest creation: a new wide body for the Mercedes SLK 55 AMG. The main idea of the kit is the extensions: the front fenders have been extended by 2.5 inches per side while the rear fenders have been extended by 2.75 inches.
Due to the fact that the vehicle you see is a prototype, the engine remained the same 5.5 liter V8 engine capable to deliver 360 hp, but don’t worry, according to the manufacturer the modifications will boost the engine to 500 hp taking out in this way the ”standard” SLK55 AMG. The kit consists of a new hood with a mean look, a re-designed front bumper, new side sills, a re-designed rear bumper with integrated carbon fiber air diffuser for better stability and a carbon fiber trunk spoiler.
Also, a new H&R sport springs system was installed lowering the car with over 25 millimeters. Although we said that the car is only a prototype, the good news is that the manufacturer says it will be accepting orders beginning in September.
Jaguar will unveil the next generation XJ at the end of 2009 as a 2010 model. It will be a totally redesigned model, with design cues taken from the latest C-XF Concept and from the XF sedan. This sneak peak photo was taken while it was caught testing at the Nurburgring.
The 2010 XJ uses the internal code X351 and will feature the aluminium chassis of the current XJ but wears all-new bodywork. Jaguar wants it to be a serious competitor for the Aston Martin Rapide.
Until its official debut next year check our preview on the 2010 Jaguar XJ.
